This will be the first year we’re trying square foot gardening. It boils down to a few advancements to gardening by Mel Bartholomew, an engineer. First, the soil isn’t actually soil, it’s compost, peat moss, and vermiculite. Second, grow in a box above the ground, no sense getting weeds in your garden or digging. Third, grow vertically, even watermelons can grow in the air. Nature thickens the vines to hold the food it grows. There are other details but these are the basics. I’m planting seeds broccoli today, maybe some others. I have to check the book, All New Square Foot Gardening: Grow More in Less Space!, and set up a google calendar for a schedule.
